Some say the best way to beat your competitor is by ignoring its existence. Some on the other hand choose to slingshot smart bombs at their competitors. Apple has for years poked fun at Microsoft in commercials highlighting their coolness and simplicity in contrast with Windows’ drab business complexity. Has it worked? Judging by today’s stock values, yes, Apple has successfully fallen the Microsoft Giant.
Why do we care? Take a look at the “rocks” used to beat MSFT. The iPod, iPhone and iPad are devices Bill Gates could not best. As hard as they tried to keep their hold of the smartphone market or compete in the portable music market, nothing compared to Steve Jobs‘ cool gadgets.
How about today? In the videos below Samsung is clearly taking jabs at Apple with products that are close to comparable. Just as the Amazon video notes, three good quality android devices can get you one high quality Apple device. For how long will this uneven scale last? Can Apple stay at the top with multiple companies throwing rocks at them? Ten years ago it was just a fight between Microsoft and Apple. Today it’s a fight between HTC, Samsung, Sharp, Mototrola, LG, Google and hundreds of smaller companies like Blu against one Apple company. Is the scale even now? Will Apple be able to peel that X off it’s back?
