After seeing this on Twitter, my “Network Security” alarm is blaring. Why would they want our home internet network names outed? That is like giving out our home addresses on TV.
Cut off Network broadcasting and cut on MAC filtering
Under normal circumstances after configuring our wireless network, the automatic setting is set to “broadcast” the network ID. Is this safe? Honestly no. If a hacker wants to break in, having the name of your network is the second thing. The first thing is your physical location.
But what about wireless networks that are locked with passwords? I’m sorry to tell you this but that only slows them down. Give them a little more time and passwords can be cracked too. The safest way to protect your home network is to NOT broadcast your home network ID. The other way is to not put it on twitter.com Smh….
