I really respect Mr. Geller for creating BGR.com and all, but clearly he’s forgotten his objectiveness. As someone who has reported on Mobile devices for at least the past 10 years, how did he miss that the “new” features on iOS 6 were pre-existing on other mobile operating systems like Symbian and Windows Mobile and Android? As one exgoogler and G+ user said: “It appears that Apple gave up on reinventing the market, and switched to playing catch up” -Tzafrir Rehan
It looks like iPhone users are still failing to look around and notice how far ahead every other smartphone is. To act like Facetime over Cellular is totally new and awesome is just plain denying the existence of Video over data Android apps like Sidecar and others.
Take a look at some of the features below and tell me if you aren’t already using an app that does this already on Android. For the first one even my wife texts automatically if she’s somewhere answering the phone is prohibited. Here’s the rest.
- Decline an incoming call with a pre-written text message letting the caller know you’ll message them in a few minutes
- FaceTime over cellular
- Offline reading list
- Ability to upload photos from Safari to websites
- Shared photo streams
- Insert photos of videos directly into emails
- Redesigned App Store and iTunes store
- Lost mode for iOS devices
- Personal dictionary syncs with iCloud
- Game Center challenges
- New features for China
- Improved privacy controls with permission to use contacts
- Custom vibration for alerts
- Ability to use a song as an alarm
- Faster Safari javascript
- New sharing menu
- Location reminders for iPad
via Apple iOS 6 features top Android again.
