Now it’s a Party! For all of you Mainstreamers pouring over websites and magazines(still?) trying to decide between the iPhone or any Android device, the line has been drawn in the sand. Three prominent Gadget bloggers: Joshua Topolsky, MG Siegler and John Gruber have caused a stir other smartphone bloggers are all too familiar with.
The iPhone users (Siegler and Gruber) contend that when it comes to quality, design and speed the iPhone has no rival. Even though they may have valid points, Topolsky protests that making it about the have’s and have not’s stirs the already muddy pot. As of this moment, Android does resemble the little brother trying to mimic it’s bigger more refined iPhone brother. Does that mean the situation will stay that way, of course not!
Just as the “little brother” almost always grows taller than the older brother, so too will Android hit a blinding growth spurt come 2012. Why is that? Simply because Android 4.0 will be comfortably installed on every new device in 2012. This uniformity will allow hardware makers the chance to truly focus on design and software ease of use. No more will they have to half stuff Android on the phone and hope that the updates after the fact will save them. ICS will be open sourced and available for all to tinker with and merge with their beautiful hardware.
Will the three Blogging Giants still have something to argue about? I’m sure, but getting upset over the old iOS vs Android argument is too premature. Wait for spring of 2012 maybe after the iPhone5 debuts…
